What does biodegradable material mean? A biodegradable material is a material which can be broken down (decomposed) by natural factors like microbes (e.g. bacteria, fungi etc.), and abiotic factors such as temperature, UV, oxygen, etc. after these materials are disposed of into the environment. Microorganisms and abiotic factors together break down complex compounds into a simpler organic matter which eventually is returned to the soil in a reasonable time frame.
